Hey hey, y'all!
You've reached my bio page, wherein I talk about myself and impress you with big words like "wherein."
Got a question for me? Get a live video response at VYou!
I was born October 31 (says a LOT already, huh?) in Fort Campbell, KY, much to the joy of my parents and big
sister. I don't remember a lot of the early years, but I know we moved a bunch. I'd like to say we were a
circus troupe or maybe a family band, but my parents deny anything like that (despite their collection of
tambourines and sparkly vests).
Most of my childhood was spent in Southern California, where I mastered the boogie-board (nobody could float
on Styrofoam like me!) and whiled away the summers at my two favorite places, the Santa Barbara Museum and the
public library. We moved to Texas the latter part of my 6th grade year, where I finished my basic education in
Texas, graduating top of my high school class and loving UIL competitions (Nerds RULE!).
I went on to college at Texas A&M University (Gig 'em, Ags!), where I majored in business, with a focus on
marketing. My last year of college was also when I met my husband. After graduation, we moved to Austin, Texas and a year later, we married in Las Vegas (Elvis was
NOT involved).
I've been a member of the SCBWI since 2003 and am one of the original members of AS IF! (Authors
Supporting Intellectual Freedom), an ever-expanding group of authors championing
those who stand against censorship, especially of books for and about teens. I've appeared in newspapers
and national publications For Me, Audrey, and East West. I'm represented by Jennifer Laughran of
the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.
I'm also a proud member of the Texas Sweethearts and Scoundrels!
AND I'm part of the Diversity in YA Tour, coming to a major city near you!
